Alsum Farms is a family owned and operated business in Randolph, Wisconsin, specializing in dairy cattle and crop production. Currently, there are two generations involved in the operation, as the work is shared between Norbert Alsum and his two sons, Bob and Levi. We are not affiliated with Alsum Farms and Produce of Friesland, Wisconsin, which specializes in fruit and vegetable production, packaging and shipping.
Our farming practices are friendly to the environment in which we live and work. Our methods include various ways to get the greatest benefit out of fertilizer, while minimizing waste. Our crop rotation and tillage practices are planned out to minimize the risk of soil erosion.
Farming has, in some ways, become more of a challenge in recent years. There are new diseases showing up in crops, and there are pests and weeds that are becoming increasingly difficult to control. Volatile commodity prices have made marketing of commodities very difficult. Very high input costs have caused a need for increased efficiency on farms, which has increased competition, and driven land prices very high.
Our goal is to continue farming in these challenging circumstances, while maintaining our integrity and being good stewards of the land. This can only be done through a lot of hard work and dedication.
